New Partner: Loschelder strengthens restructuring and insolvency practice with Freshfields lawyer
Dr. Nils Derksen, previously Principal Associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, joins Loschelder as partner on 1 November 2021.
Nils (38) has been practising as a lawyer since 2014, first in the Cologne and most recently in the Düsseldorf office of Freshfields, in the areas of restructuring and insolvency law as well as corporate law/M&A. He has more than seven years of experience in advising German and international clients on Distressed M&A transactions, out-of-court and in-court restructurings as well as all aspects of reorganisation and insolvency law. His main focus is on advising investors, insolvency administrators, debtors, creditors and shareholders in complex distressed situations and formal insolvency proceedings (including self-administration and insolvency plan proceedings). He also advises on corporate law and M&A with a focus on corporate restructurings (e.g. carve-outs). Most recently, he advised the insolvency administrator of SolarWorld AG on the sale of several domestic and foreign participations and assets, REWE Group/DER Touristik on the acquisition of assets out of the Thomas Cook insolvency proceedings and the Knauf Group on the carve-out of part of its ceiling business.
Nils is a qualified banker. After studying law and completing his legal traineeship in London and New York as well as a dissertation project in restructuring and insolvency law, he was admitted to the German bar in 2014.
Dr. Frank Heerstraßen, Corporate/M&A partner: "With Nils, we are expanding our advisory services in an area that is essential for our clients and our firm. The strengthening of our restructuring and insolvency practice by way of establishing an own department is a strong signal for our clients, in particular in the current market situation. Against the background of a generally expected increase in distressed and insolvency cases and the recent far-reaching legislative changes in the German restructuring and insolvency law, we are now ideally positioned to provide our clients with comprehensive advice in this area. Nils complements our Corporate/M&A team, which consists of seven partners. Especially in Distressed M&A as well as at the interface of insolvency and corporate law, we can now provide our clients with flexible and effective teams. We are very pleased to have been able to win Nils. We are thus continuing our strategy of selectively covering the growing demand for advice both with outstanding lateral hires and by promoting internal candidates."
